Honestly, this is a landmark in Linken's screenwriting journey. I do genuinely love the idea of the crime witness being the pet--such an unprecedented fault, you would never expect your way to prison would be a water animal that had otherwise never formed a single audible word. The premise is sort of abstract and interesting.
