A promising adaptation of a franchise that was let down movie-wise. The bold casting choices make for interesting dynamics and Jason Mantzoukas (Mr. D/Dionysus) does not disappoint! This series is a surprising fresh start from Disney.

**Bad.** What a disappointing start. No desire to watch this anymore. It's pretty clear that this series is on par with the train wrecks disney has been doling out for the last decade. Another outing in a long line of wastes of time where they dropped the ball on casting, realism, pumped up cringe, or ditching the story or changing it to fill a checklist. Hope is now lost for this series too. But you can now set your watch and expect disney will keep doling out disasters. The track record is clear after what they've done to other things, like Doctor Who, Star Wars, etc. Disney was once great, but it's now in the gutter. Like another user said, this makes the movies looks good.

This is the Percy Jackson adaptation worthy of Rick Riordan's novels that the Logan Lerman films from the early 2010s never were. The major characters are perfectly cast, with the previously-unknown Walker Scobell in the lead as Jackson being as endearing a young-adult blockbuster franchise star as greats like Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter or Elijah Wood's Frodo Baggins. Scobell nails the hot-headedness, ADHD, childlike aspects of Jackson mixed with the sincere heroism, bravery, and passionate commitment to protecting his loved ones and doing what's right. While there's love for the Lerman version of the character of my generation, he was simply too old to carry that franchise, as was the supporting cast like Alexandra Daddario's Annabeth. Disney's casting of actors closer to 12 for the initial "Lightning Thief" season allows them to age with the series, like they're meant to given the source material, an effect that endears us to these characters as we watch them grow that worked for Harry Potter and the Tom Holland Spider-Men, and works for this show. Leah Jeffries as Annabeth is arguably even more of a star than Scobell as Jackson. Jeffries and the superior writing of the character make her a far more endearing secondary protagonist slash love interest than the Daddario version was. I dislike that they left out the romantic aspect of the relationship between her and Percy in season 1, but season 2 makes up for this by incorporating that aspect into the show as the actors and characters aged. I have similarly positive feelings towards the kid they cast to play Grover, and the improvements to that character over the Lerman films. Only character I prefer the Lerman films version of to the version of in this series is Gabe, Percy's mother's shitty boyfriend. Joe Pantoliano's Gabe in the Lerman version was a more thoroughly hateable toxic jackass blowhard, as the character is meant to be. There's numerous memorable sequences that are truly cinematic, with the Gateway Arch scene, capture the flag, and Clarisse firing a World War 2-era turret loaded with gold bullets at a kraken while spinning around a maelstrom, being some standouts. I wish they had a Hollywood blockbuster budget instead of a streaming series budget to execute on the visual effects of some of these sequences and really bring the epic vision to life, but the execution is solid nonetheless. The final few episodes of season 2 are thrilling, well-executed, and have me hype for season 3. Charmingly funny writing, as a child-like wonder show with child heroes should be, and with a sense of humor true to that of Riordan's books, an aspect of Percy Jackson that the much more straight-faced Lerman films sorely missed, but that this series benefits from. Disney was the right studio to make the definitive version of Percy Jackson & the Olympians, worthy of that "it's Harry Potter but for Greek gods" title. Fingers crossed they keep the momentum going through adapting the rest of the books, but given the solid job they did on Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters for seasons 1-2, I have nothing but faith they'll keep it up. Season 2 in particular was literally one of the greatest seasons of television I've ever seen. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is GOATed Feeling a strong A to soft A+ on this one
